| So, check this.
Every year, me and my wife do Thanksgiving w/ one family, and Christmas w/ the other. Keeps things simple. So, this year, we were set to do Gobble Gobble day w/ my family, and Xmas with my wife's. About a week before Thanksgiving, my father started to get sick, but we all figured he'd be good by the time Thanksgiving rolled around. My dad reinforced this, by telling us this was in fact, true (despite not being a doctor!).
So, at about 2pm on Wednesday, I get the call. Dad is still really sick, and there will be no Gobble Gobble day dinner at my mom's house. Now, my mom had been preparing this feast for a week leading up to the day, and was not pleased. However, we figured we'd just get together on Sat or Sun for a "make up feast".
Now, suddenly, we have no plans on Thanksgiving, so I call up my sister (who was also going to be at my parents house ) and inform her of the change in plans. We decide that we'll just hang at her place, and get a pizza or something, instead of her trying to make a huge meal, last minute.
We figure'd we'd just do it low key, so we can all relax. So now, we've got a plan, although we're kinda bummed about not getting turkey.
But my mom begins to panic, thinking her turkey is gonna go bad (I know, I know), so my sister drives down from her place and picks it up. So, now she's got a turkey she has to cook within a few days. A 20lb. bird.
So, Gobble Gobble day arrives, and we head over to my sisters. Now, I am unable to drink, as I am on medicine from stupid broncitis. Damnit. If I am watching the Lions, it's best if I am...........well, you know.
Anywho, the day progresses, and we are having fun. My brother in law arrives home with my niece, and a few snacks to munch on. He brings beer, and I look at it, making a sad face.
About 6pm, we decide we are hungry, and get set to order some pizza. After taking 15 minutes to decide what we want, he begins to call, only to find it is not open. Not prob, we'll just call another place. Same thing. He proceeds to spend the next 20 minutes, trying to find a pizza place open. No dice. Now, we begin to get a bit concerned, but no worries, me and Jim ( my bro in law) procalim that we shall venture out into the world and will find some grub. No prob, right?
WRONG.
There is nothing open. Like, nothing. Even Taco Bell was closed! Now, we begin to really worry, lol. Holy shit, we're gonna have to eat pizza rolls, chips, and vegetables! Actually, it sounded kinda good. So we drive around for almost an hour. Finally, we see a Ruby Tuesdays. It's open! Yes!
We go in, and they have turkey dinners! Woo Hoo! We call the wives, and they allow us to return home, now that we have found food. So we drive back home, and have our meal. BTW, Ruby Tuesdays does not make a very good turkey dinner, lol! The irony? My sister was actually cooking my mom's turkey, but it wouldn't have been ready until 10pm!
So we ate our dinner, pretending it didn't taste like feet, and watched Elf. Then we went home. All in all, it was a memorable day, and pretty damn funny.
My sister gave us some of the turkey to take home, and a few days later, my wife made me a Thankgiving feast! So, a happy ending, I suppose. And that, is how we spent Gobble Gobble day!
........And the freakin' Lions got clobbered! | |

| Some people may think that's it's not Thanksgiving without a turkey or dressing. Well.. one year.. out of 30 people.. SOMEONE FORGOT THE DINNER ROLLS!!! I was madder than hell. I think I chewed out everyone from parents to babies because I always want those dinner rolls that are nice and warm with butter. Since then: THERE IS AN OVERABUNDANCE OF ROLLS. This year I think we had like 72 Dinner Rolls and I bet I ate 30 of those damn things! I like me some bread and butter!!! | |

| Actually celebrated Thanksgiving 4 times that week. I love turkey and mashed potatos and gravey and biscuits/rolls and corn. Not a fan of pumpkin pie though so I load up on the potatos and turkey mostly and like Bats, gotta have fresh rolls/biscuits! Dip 'em in the gravey! | |
