Well I figure there have to be a few more Lost fans on the board so I thought we could open a dialogue about the final episode and the show in general.
After 6 years of mysteries, conundrums, flashbacks, flashforwards, flashsideways, dreams, hallucinations, deaths, rebirths and the all the rest, I was looking forward to some mysteries being finally solved and questions answered. Who built/created this mysterious island? What was the massive statue supposed to represent? What is the source of the island's power? How much of what has happened has been "real" or just imagined?
SPOILER WARNING: READ NO FURTHER IS YOU HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE FINAL EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And they answered none of them! We know little more about the island that we did in Season 1. They did a good job of wrapping up the "sideflashs" that began this season, but not the show in general. What was Walt's significance? They hinted early on he had a pretty important role to play. No Answer. Who built the Island? No Answer. What was the massive statue represntative of? No Answer. Is the Man In Black really dead now, or can he move on to another body? No Answer.
Why? Why? Why?
Cause they aren't finished.
Pretty much Ben's last line in the show "I have some unfinished loose ends to take care of."
This leads me to believe that we will see the Lost franchise again in some form. Something that will build on the storylines unresolved in the show. A spinoff? A major motion picture? I predict something is in the works.
As a story the last episode was good. But as the wrap up to a six year long mystery it left a lot to be desired. It was akin to watching Murder She Wrote and having Jessica Fletcher out the murderer, then just say "cause he was a bad bad man" without explaining how she figured it out.
Still it was worth watching to se the final confrontation(?) with Locke/The Man In Black. I loved this series. I don't get into very many TV series and even when I do I don't always stay for the entire show. But I can honestly say I have seen EVERY single episode at least once. Lost was great television. Too bad it ended not with a bang, but a whimper.
