| I had to look twice to make sure that this wasnt posted on the onion. It's not. This is some serious strangeness, IMO. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| It's brick arms, not lego. They are to Lego what companies like Fans Projects and Igear are to transformers. | |

| well is it really any different to those 1/6 scale nazi soldiers you can get?? and lego good guys DO need bad guys to fight, got to admit im impressed by the detail on those little lego weapons, someone has done a good job on them...but im not swallowing the al-queda spin that is being put on it,he looks like any freedom fighter or terrorist you might see in the middle east since the 1940s....goddamn journalists with their moral high ground... | |

| I kinda wish they made 3 3/4 inch Osama figures. I would love to have my Joes take his ass out over and over again. | |

Is that because the BTR line wasn't that successful I know it's not the same size as lego but the principle was the same?

| i think its funny. Although I don't care for the fact that its Osama, had it just been a run of the mill desert militant I think it might have gone over a little more. Its a cool concept, I mean he's armed to the teeth! If you are really into legos it'd be a cool figure to have, aside from the persona it is based on that is | |

| Dirka! Dirka! You missed me!
Was it Patton that said something like 'If there are no bad guys then what use is there for us?' ?
I think it is funny. I was in a Lego store today (Northpark Mall, Dallas). They didn't have any.

| I don't think it is wrong at all. I think it is to be expected.
Kids (and those of us who still enjoy kid's toys) are prone to play games with very definable villains. In the 40s and 50s, everyone played war against the Nazis, then war against Tojo and the dirty Japs (my apologies to anyone offended, not intended), later it was Vietnam against the dirty Vietcong. It is normal for kids to see things as good vs evil. PErsonally I think it is very theraputic. Here's why:
The thought of terrorists attacks was made all too real on Sept 11, 2001. A major piece of our American cultural was attacked and destroyed. This did not happen "over there" or in some far off place, but right here in NYC, in a building that many of us (myself included) have been too. That brought the realism all to close to home for many and a lot of people were effected in a major way. This includes kids. With the array of media sources today it is impossible to hid the fact that some pople want to blow other people up from kids. It can be a very scary thing.
Now look at it this way. Having toys that represent those villains can let children use their imaginations to defeat them, thuss, in a way letting them beat any fears they may have. Indians are a lot less scary when you can shoot them with your plastic cowboys, nazis not so bad when you can have the 101st Airborne troops take them out, and Cobra doesn't seem so insidious when Duke and Scarlet and Shipwreck can kick his ass.
The threat doesn't go away and the danger is still there, but kids can now transfer their fears into play, and triumphe over them.
