Who will be Superman?

Sorry, I have plans, but who else is up for the role?

Reports say that both Brandon Routhe and Tom Welling have expressed interest in the reboot of the Son of Kypton's adventures. This is the first time I've heard Welling actually interested in wearing the tights, so that is something. I for one, did like Routhe as Supes, but of course despised the silly suit they made him wear. With Christopher Nolan taking a 'Godfather' role in this movie, it'll be interesting to see what the take on Superman is. It looks like Johnathan Nolan may in fact be directing, so time will tell.

So who do you wanna see as Superman? Sound off.

The only way I would want to see Tom Welling play Superman in a movie is if you are going to use the rest of the Smallville cast. It would be too weird if you just used him. I was not a fan of Routhe. I think if Christopher Nolan is going to make this one of his type of films, he needs someone new. Not sure who that someone is just yet, though.

On a side note... I really hope that he goes different direction for villans. I really am hoping to get someone other than Zod or Lex Luthor. Maybe, Darkseid, Doomsday, or even Brainiac.

I agree. Luthor needs a rest. And honestly, although I love Kevin Spacey, his protrayal of Lex didn't blow me away. I don't think Routhe will get it. I think Welling might have a shot, but yeah, would be weird to see him without the cast of Smallville. Who knows? I have faith in the Nolans to do this right, they've certain done so by Batman (my favorite).

I really think they should go the Brainiac route. There are so many possibilities with that character.

Totally down with a Brainiac villian. Maybe have a Lex cameo, just because. Michael Rossenbaum could do a cameo, and it would be cool. Always liked his Lex a lot. When he left Smallville, it hurt the show a lot. But it did give them an oportunity to try to use other villians, too.

He really was, especially as they developed him in the later seasons of SM. He got darker and darker. Was good stuff.

As long as it isn't Nicholas Cage I like his acting but Superman material he isn't.

Its gotta be someone New. This is a reboot. Don't get me wrong I would looooove to see welling continue his role as Superman in a film. This would link Smallville to the film Universe as well. However I just don't see it happening. I don't think the WB wants to link the DC tv universe to their film universe. I would love to see Alexander Skarsgard (Eric from Trueblood) as Supes. He's got the height and frame to be big enough. His hair is short and slicked back now so I can really picture the look. He's demonstrated good acting ability as well. There was an episode last season where he turned on bumbling geek mode to trick a guard. Changing his voice posture and demeanor and it really clicked for me that he could pull of Clark and Superman's duel persona. Just my opinion. John Hamm from tvs Madmen would be a great Supes too I think. He'd have to bulk up, but he's got the look. He's around 40 though and I see the studios thinking thats to old for a reboot of the character unfortunately. He really captures that classic Alex Ross Supes look.

As for a villain I hope its anyone but Lex. Don't get me wrong I love Lex but he's been over done. And never done very well IMO ( at least in film). Is it too much to ask for a big brawl were we actually get to see Supes use his strength and ability in combat? although I believe i read somewhere that Brainiac is part of Goyer's script as well as deep Krytonian mythology, which should be cool. Also I read that The story is a reboot but NOT an origin story. It takes for granted that everyone already knows about Superman rocketing to earth being raised in Smallville working for the Daily planet with Jimmy, Lois, Perry etc. So thats good. I really don't need to see that story for the millionth time. I have faith that Nolan and Goyer can make it work. Realisticly this will be the first crack since the original if you take into account the fact that "Superman Returns" is basically set in the Christopher Reeve continuity. Brandon Routh did his best Reeve impression and Kevin Spacy did his best Gene Hackmen. I will love to see something fresh. I love the original films, but its time to move on.

When they finally announce the new Supes, it's gonna be very interesting, indeed.

With Christopher Nolan in place to "godfather" the remake; a script by David Goyer and Jonah Nolan featuring Zod as the villain and now Zack Snyder chosen to direct, this question becomes the next big piece of the puzzle. Who will play the Man of Steel?

I still like Jon Hamm (Madmen) myself. He's a bit older, but he looks the part perfectly and he's a good actor. I don't mind an older Superman it might give him more presence. Plus Bale is a tad older as Batman so it makes sense. I can't picture some young kid standing face to face with Batman (not that they will cross over in this film) Hamm reminds me of an Alex Ross Superman. The casting for this film is crucial. Superman, Lois and Zod. I think Gerard Butler wuld make an epic ZOD. Butler and Hamm have both worked with Snyder before too. What do you guys think?

Butler would make a good Zod. A very good one.

I saw a report that Jason Stathem, Jude Law, and Russell Crowe are possibles for Zod.

Please, no Russell Crowe. I'd love to see Gerard Butler as Zod, he'd freakin' own!
